This project was a series of white-papers delivered as a collaboration between the Games and Playable Media group (at UC Santa Cruz, where I was a grad student) and Microsoft.
Our goal was to show how modern, AAA titles could benefit from the addition of drama management and content generation systems that were being built by Games and Playable Media students. I ended up writing eleven papers looking at various different genres, identifying key experiences, and suggesting what such a system might look like. The papers were presented in 2011, and I don’t know if anyone was actually listening, but Shadow of Mordor was released a few years later and incorporated some interesting drama management, so I like to think that someone somewhere read them!
